Well maybe I am not in the promise land today.  I took the bike out for a quick fuel and bank run.  Damn revs went back up to 3k, but didn't go higher fortunately.  So I came home and worked throttle cable so I am fairly certain its not too tight.  After that I am not quite sure what the problem could be
