There are hi-tech thermal underwear available, for around $30-$40 a set. They come in various materials, but they all basically wick away sweat to keep you warm, and dry. We bought a set after freezing in Canada, circling Superior, back in '09. They feature uppers, and lowers. You can wear one, or both. Together, they keep you
much warmer. The tops feature long sleeves. Use these in place of your regulars T's, and you'll find even greater warmth. You have it right, though: layering is the way to go, using several thin layers, rather than a few thick layers. Cheers!
