I had the exact same problem (although my bikes PO just took the bolt out and didn't replace it with anything).

I don't know exactly how long it is, but make sure you don't use one that is too long. There is a very thin piece of aluminium at the bottom of that bolt that could easily get pushed through if you use a long bolt.
It looks like you can get the official bolt from dealer still though. I think I will actually go this route because my hardware store bolt looks terrible.
