The pull method is ok and the twist. It is when people wiggle them side to side that things get messed up. I guess I have never seen a bent jet but I have seen cracked jet housings from wiggling them.

Your method is perfectly fine though, I doubt the threads bother anything since they do not change the venturi effect of the jet.
