easy way to test coils when off the bike?

is there a way test to see if coils are good when they're off the bike?

i got a set of accel coils in a parts bucket from a cb900c and want to know if they're good before putting them on my bike.

The PO had strangely smashed the ignition wires/boots when he took them off, so I need to know if they work before buying a new set of ignition wires for them.  I was hoping that I could just re-use my NGK boots and wires, but it doesn't look like that will be possible because of the small connector I need to connect to the coil.
