Hey guys I am new to this forum to not new to forums at all. I have used forums for a number of years for all sorts of things. I have found them to be very helpful and a good way to help out. Through relationships I made in Bimmerfest.com I was able to do a auto to manual transmission swap on my BMW 330Ci. So now I am here because I am picking up an 82 cb750 later this week. It needs some work and paint but it will make a good project for me. It needs the cars rebuilt which I have already called about and found I can get them rebuilt and re jetted for $400. My plan for the build is to lower the bike an inch or so nothing major. Replace the seat and rear fender with a one piece deal. Flat or super bike handle bars. Turn signal deletes and a different tail light. Not sure what I am going to do with wheels yet. Thinking a 4 to 1 open exhaust and maybe pod filters. I would really like to do a custom intake manifold I think that would be pretty cool to play with. I am probably going to paint it flat black when I get it done.

More info on the bike as I said it's an 82 cb750. It has 15k miles on the clock(not sure how far along in life that puts the motor.) it is a K which I gather means it is a dressed down simple version. Gas tank is dented so I will need to find a good used one or buy/fab a custom tank. It is also DOHC which I have heard is problematic with the carbs esp when tuning and doing pods. not a perfect bike but I am paying $700 for it.

About me: I am a student/employee at the University of Missouri College of engineering. My major is MAE which I plan to use in the aftermarket performance industry, if that fails I will search in aerospace. I am on the Formula SAE team. I live in Columbia, MO. I decided to go with an early 80's Honda because I love the way they look customized. My current DD is a  2003 BMW 330Ci I really need something that is more fuel efficient.

First questions: First carbs!! how bad are they really? will pods jack everything up? Is there a good aftermarket solution to them? Second how tuneable are these motors? will I see any increase with the intake/exhaust, what are the best ways to coax more power out? Fuel efficeny, what do you guys usually get mpg wise? Last question for now, is $700 a fair price for a bike that needs carb work and is in overall fix up to ride condition?

Thanks guys!
