What is the history of this bike?  Is the electrical system in good shape - properly wired up - as far as you know?

Wondering about that blown fuse - have you replaced it?  Which fuse?

Your problem doesn't sound plausible - based on your description.  Your description makes it sound like - put bike in gear, and engine dies instantly - like you hit the off switch.  Does the engine die that abruptly - or does it slowly die?

If you "blip the throttle" can you keep the bike running in gear?  Thinking about the idle solenoid here . . . .
