I checked the shim thickness using a vernier caliper but a micrometer would be better as the center of the shim wears down.

Question 1 - My shop temperature is 60 F.  Should this affect my measurements?
Question 2 - Should the shims be installed with the numbers facing down? And if I grind, which surface?
