Fork Compatibility Question

Well I finally made my first expensive mistake during the rebuild of my '78 750F. With the intention of leaving the front fender off the finished product, I torqued the fender mount bolts down until they were flush with the mount holes (really tight). After doing this, the stanchions would no longer compress into the lowers. Apparently I had tightened the bolts enough to warp the lowers
My question is, will forks from a later model F fit a '78?
