I thought only the 79 DOHC floats were adjustable?  Check the FSM addendums to make sure though.

I have an 81 cb750K and mine are not adjustable.

You're a mechanic, so you have probably already checked, but are the overflow tubes cracked?

Can you take pics of your floats?  I have seen some people that had incorrect ones installed.
