Check and note the current battery voltage. Charge it. Crank it up. Measure voltage at the battery, then rev it. The voltage should rise from your initial charge rate. If not, the stator or regulator are dead. Or both. Check the charging system according to the service manual.

With a dead battery, the voltage isn't high enough to provide a good spark, if at all. Some bikes can be jump started with a dead battery because power is supplied to the CDI by a secondary winding on the stator. Points bikes cannot. The coil amplifies the 12v.
