As a note, sometimes on my other bikes it helps to hit neutral while you are still rolling.
To sit stationary and fumble up and down on the shift it may blow right by... If you are sitting in the driveway might try a combination of pressure on the shifter while rocking the bike front and back.
Also no proof of this, but I think a high idle speed doesn't help matters.
