Is it possible that it's leaking out of the cam chain adjuster (above that bolt - not shown in pic) and leaking down onto it?

The cam chain adjuster is a fairly common spot for a leak and it's a much easier seal to get to.

Do you know if he put car oil synthetic in it?

I would not put any additives in to stop the leak.  Way too many small passageways that could get blocked.  I would sooner clean up a small leak than repair a seriously damaged engine.
