The cylinder case in that pic looks to be a totally different color than the engine cases. Do you know if the engine has been apart? May be a bad base gasket after all. I'm not saying that it is, I really don't know,but the difference in the colors would lead me to suspect the engine has been apart at some time. Could be other reasons,though.
