Do you have a timing light? Set the timing static, then start and rev. The manual specifies when full advance should happen, something like 2500 rpm. Verify that it opens at that rpm and not too soon or too late.

From there, I would pull the plugs and see what the insulator looks like to make sure things are not too lean. That can be a symptom of being too lean.
