What is a Speed Warning Unit?

I am switching 78 harness to my 76 and found a device called a speed warning unit.  The latest owners manual I have is 1977 and it doesn't address it there.  I see in the schematic that it goes back to the speedometer and parking light.  Does this have something to do with the parking brake warning system or speed of the bike?  Is it adjustable?
