I'm pretty sure I read about a guy doing that on the other DOHC forum.  I recall that performance was "meh" but I could be wrong.  I remember reading that it took him a while to tune, but he ended up getting to run almost as well as stock carbs, with a minor flat spot.

That said, the guy trying it didn't seem to have as much experience as you.

Here are apparently all of the options:
BST 34,36,38 SS carbs-(GSXR/KATANA)
CR specials
FCR
And one fella who put SOHC carbs on his bike.
1981 CB750K with 900 cams
90K KM's, rebuilt head, rebuilt carbs, upgraded valve stem seals
