Hi TOOLS.  I really don't remember how I did it or what I was trying to accomplish when it jammed - just that I was in the middle of replacing the chain.  I remember I was able to roughly shift between 1st and neutral for a bit, but while mashing on it trying to get it unjammed it stuck in 1st or 2nd.  Should have slowed down and tried to find out what was wrong to fix it instead of trying to force it.  Older, wiser, more patient, and have access to this site now!  The shifter lever is now bent a little, so I'll have to replace it.  I'm hoping I did not break anything or do major damage, but will see when I tear it down.
