I tried PVC but it was too thick. I just measured it at 1 1/18" O.D.. Just ordered a piece of steel with a 1" O.D. and .76 inner .112 wall. Hoping that works.

In case anyone else isn't sure about the allen bolt top caps on the DOHC bikes here's what I did.

To get the top caps off my 1980 cb750f. I used a M10 both with a 17mm head and 2 M10 nuts purchased at Lowe's. I locked the nuts on the bolt tightly then inserted the head of the bolt into the top fork cap and used a wrench to loosen it.
