oil filter 67 dream 305

Just a FYI...besides my 1980 Honda Elsinore I had when I was in my early days...this is the only Honda I've owned...so I have a few questions. I removed the side cover to clean and inspect my oil filter system and I noticed it was attached to a chain drive. I buttoned everything up and got out. What's with that?
