My '75 isn't charging.  When it's under load I'm only getting about 12.4 volts across it so I'm starting to investigate where the problem might be. The bike left me stranded a couple weeks ago, I was able to kick start it and get home which was cool. But my old Chiltons manual tells me in order to check the alternator output I need an ohmmeter and a voltage meter and you connect them in series to the positive side of the battery and this will tell what the alternator looks like...well no a  days you buy these digital multi purpose meters so I don't know how to hook that up to the battery and check alternator out put??? Any ideas woould be great. Plus I discovered there are actually points in the regultor that might need to be re-gapped....I tried it but not sure I got it right..is there any test using the multimeter to check the regultaor?
