This poses a real problem,as I get good fuel consumption with a 15 -40 sprockets set up, but starting on steep hills has always been a problem as I have to really rev the motor and slip the clutch to get underway. Also I have to change down more often, so am thinking that I go back to a 44 rear teeth sprocket and damn the consquences. Now to find the right chain to go with the change in sprocket set up. A 15 -38 setup would be too high a ratio for first gear, but would be OK for long distinace touring , just so long as I didnt have any mountain passes to climb, then I would be forever havomg to swop cogs
