front brake caliper problem

   Hello every body, I am new to this forum and I just purchased a 78 750k. Bike came with a non working front brake. Sans oil bolt. I took off the caliper to check piston but I can't get the old pad off the caliper. once I do,how to check piston with caliper in hand? anybody know?
