81 Custom - Other problems fixed, now engine won't run right.

I got the tire(s) issue straight.  Got the charging issue straight.  During that time (when it would crank) the engine rane great.  This morning I got on it for a ride and it ran ROUGH.  I had to wipe the morning dew off the seat, so I was thinking maybe some wires were damp, and that it would get better.  It didn't.  Power was lower, it would miss, and backfired a few times.  I rode 5 miles and brought it home.  About 3 hours later, I tried again.  This time it ran fine - but after stopping for 5 minutes at the in-laws, I had a hard time cranking it.  It would run and shut off.  It was a little low on gas, but not that low.  I went to the gas station and filled it up.  I had a hard time getting it to crank (I know the charging system is working well now LOL).  I get it cranked, but it cut off on me at every other stop sign coming home.

I just went out there and tried again and took a while to get it to crank.  It still shuts off on low idles.  And once it backfired like a frickin cannon just while I was trying to crank it.

What changed?  It was running smoothly.
