that really cool header wrap?

ive been seeing alot of header wrap on alot of air cooled engines(harley and jap stuff) and i was wondering why a guy would want to do that?first off it looks ugly(imo)and second:header wrap is designd to keep heat in the combustion chamber on drag cars.why would an air cooled engine need any help keeping heat in the combustion chamber?i thought they did a pretty good job of that already.

Only time I can think of for using it is when you exhaust is in really poor shape and you can't afford a newer system.
Otherwise, it would be mainly a looks thing. Some people like the look. But then some like shiny and some like ratty.

Wrap/ceramic is to insulate the pipe as hot gasses flow best through a hot pipe instead of colliding with cold metal (IE trying to keep exh gas velocity as it's best).  Has nothing to do with combustion chamber ;)  Some people just like the look, or covering up a ratty seat of headers.

I was considering wrapping mine for asthetic purposes. I am one of them theres who can't be affordin some new pipes.

Well, I guess it does have a little bit to do with the combustion chamber in the form of having the hotter/faster gasses flowing out the pipe....'pulling' more fresh charge in than without the insulation....but yeah really all about increasing exh gas velocity.

hmmmmmm,what youre saying does kinda make sense.but i wonder why so many guys talk about it being bad for youre engine?

Hmmmm, have never heard that.  See no reason why it would ever be bad.  Poor man's (original) ceramic coating.

yeah i guess youre rite.i never herd of a guy sayin his engine blew up because of the header rap.but alot of people do bad mouth it.(including me i guess.im just sick of seeing guys with red rims,white walls and header wrap on everything and them calling it a "bobber")
