throttle

katman
Hi Everyone,
Went for a good ride sat. Glad to get the pilot jet problem squared away. Bike runs great and I enjoy getting the looks as I ride my classic.(77).  One problem though. The throttle is not returning very well
by itself. I tried oiling the cables. Do i need to try and oil up the linkage since carb rebuild. As Allways
thnks for everyones input.

Can you disconnect the throttle cable at the carb and then manually lift the throttle at the carb with your finger?  If it sticks there then you have a problem with the linkage.  If not, it's probably the cable that is sticking.  Should be an easy test to do as long as the bike is cold and not running.  If it's hot then be careful not to burn your hand

The cause is usually the cables. Are they the originals? If so, it might be time to replace them as the inside is probably gunked up or worn out. Another option could be that they are binding, try re-routing them and see if that helps. these are the 2 primary reasons.

I did have the close cable on my carbs cause issues. it seemed like it "shrunk" and then would cause a very hard throttle. I removed it and now my throttle snaps closed. I left the cable in there just in case my other cable ever breaks.

Make sure the throttle locking screw is not screwed in.

Okay, what is the throttle locking screw. Also the cables seem to be original. What is a good replacement.
I have seen here on the forum some are not worth using.
Thanks guys.

It's under the right handle bar switch between the where the cables go in to the throttle.  If you have one. The old CB's have one.

I got mine from vintagecb750.com. No problems. You just have to be sure they are routed right.

The honda cables are best. Expensive but the original lasted this long so in the grand scheme, not bad at all.
Motion pro are the other common choice. not as good but much cheaper. Require more frequent oil treatments though.
