The label, on the steering head, just below the handlebars, should list the model, and the year. The L/Anniversary bike, had badges on the side covers, and the tank, that stated that it was the Anniversary Edition; the K model just has a "K" after the "CB750", on the side covers. There was also some fancier pinstriping on the gas tank, on the L (different paint scheme, as well, on the gas tank). Not sure about SS model. The "L" model also came with ComStar rims, while the "K" model came with spokes. I believe the "L" model had a disc brake on the rear, while the "K" came with a drum rear brake.
Mine is a "K", by the way. The "L" model was limited in production. The "K" was the main model, which sold the most, in 1979, as far as I know. If all else fails, post a picture here, showing the steering head label, the gas tank badges, and the side cover badges, and someone will be able to confirm it. Cheers!

Thanks for the help. Unfortunatly the problem is the tank is not stock (original) and the side covers are missing. The bike does have the aluminum comstock wheels. Will try to get some picks up. My plans are to do some minor mods to it and turn it into a bobber.

There are several websites that will help you to identify your bike from the VIN and the engine and frame numbers. Try googling Honda cb750 history.

Just post on here what your head stock says, guys like rerun and tools know too much about these bikes. And i'd bet they could tell you what it is..

If it's a 1979 bike with Comstar wheels, and they are original, I think it has to be a 10th Anniversary model. The serial number should start with 3000006. Hope that helps.
I have two SOHCs. One a 1978 model in almost mint condition and one 1974 in pieces that i'm renovating. I've just rebuilt the gear box and bottom end, polished all the covers and now starting on the top end.
