turn signals not working

Viper1074
I own a 1980 Honda CB750 custom and I just bought this bike from the original owner of it (only had 4000 miles on it), when I bought it from him he told me that everything except the charging rotor worked on the bike, so I replaced the rotor and everything did work great on it. Then last week, I was riding it and my friend who was riding his bike with me told me that as we were driving down the road he noticed that I didn't brake for the light, well I did use my brakes and they worked but my rear brake light didn't light up also I noticed that my turn signals didn't work either, my rear ones don't even light up, where my front ones do have the lights on until you turn the signal on (right turn signal turn on, right front light turns off and doesn't flash, also the flashing light on gauges doesn't work either, the same is said for the left turn signal when used), I have checked the connections on the wiring, grounds and the bulbs too, any ideas on what could be causing this?

Have you checked your fuses yet?  Pretty sure you either have a blown fuse or a short somewhere.  Maybe both.

Stock location for the fuses in between the tank and your handlebars.

Main fuse is located under the seat, but if that was blown then nothing would work.

I have checked all the fuses, this was the first place I have checked, and I did buy replacements for the fuses to have on hand as this was the first thing that came to my mind when I was at work the next day, see it isn't like everything doesn't work, the front (what I call, running lights) lights are on when you aren't using the turn signal, also I did take apart the turn signal / high/low beam light component to check to see if it was making "good" contact, which it is and the High/Low beam light switch works fine.

I am in the process of using a voltmeter to check the all the wire, I have started to work my way backwards from the wear to the front, there is so far nothing wrong with the wear wiring as in a short or grounds

Can you confirm that all of the bulbs light up? I had a short inside of one of my aftermarket turn signals that drove me crazy for a while.

If you've used your meter and confirmed you have voltage, it is probably a bad ground.

Is the ground for turn signals right behind the coils? My right turn signal flashes but doesnt stay on.

Hey i am literally almost having the exact same issue. Just took my headlight out to adjust it cause the neutral light wouldnt come on. So i pulled apart the harnesses scrubbed out the corrosion i saw in the clips put it back together and now my front turn signal light are on but dont blink they just shut off when turned. My rear signals are off completely, also neither of my brakes activate my break light. Just wanted to get on here to say it sounds so similar, that its more likely one exact thing and not just messy wiring or such, please let me know if you figured it out.

Fellow dudes,

I'm in the ball park here too. On my recently purchased '76 F1 SS, I'm having issues with my signals. Get this: actuating the left turn signal does the following: left rear turn lightbulb stays on, no flashy flashy, both front (left and right) signal bulbs go dim, no flashy. Actuating the right turn signal does this: right rear turn signal bulb comes on and stays on, no flashy flashy, both front (left and right) signal bulbs go dim, no flashy. Now in the dash area, both turn signal indicators come on at the same time. No flashing there either.
I have tested the 'winker' relay by from removing it from the bike and hooking it up to my cars battery and the two front turn signal light bulbs (the lightbulbs were removed from the bike also) and it flashes them as they are supposed to do. The winker 'horn' sounds off, too, with the flashing of the lights as it operates normally. I hope the problem is just a ground, but where? Help!
Yes, I painted the bike 'sand' camouflage color and put a satin clear coat on it. Both sides of the tank I have painted 'PDXCB750'

Check the relay or the bulb it self. Another would be the trigger switch, it may need some cleaning.

Yeah, uh, I thought I had the grounds hooked up, but they weren't. I followed the wiring schematic and realized that I  had two wires hooked up. The ground is the metal mount bracket the turn signals are mounted to and the headlight ears that are ground and have wires going to a common ground on the chassis. So, now the buzzer works when the turn signals work. Flashing happens....sometimes. Typically, when I'm at speed, they work, but at stop lights...not so much.

Completely remove the flasher from the bike and try to use your signals.  If it behaves the same your powering the signals elsewhere (not through the flasher).

Viper, I had the same problem with blinker flash.  Pulled the flasher and put another flasher in and still no flash.  Checked the voltage between the two wires going to the flasher and voltage was present when I turned the blinkers on.  Bought another 12 volt flasher at auto parts store and it worked.
