would not start

fordsparky
Hello everyone;
hope this is in right spot and helps somebody else... just picked up 1979 CB750 Limited with over 53,000 km and she would not start - so i did the following and lucked out...
1- vacuumed out mouse storage pile of bird seed from air box and replaced filter
2- changed and charged a new battery
3- openend drain screws on bottom of carb bowls and observed yellow fuel and drained
4- removed fuel tank drained then filled with 100% sea foam swished let sit overnight and drained
5- after re-installed fuel tank with an in-line fuel filter and put another can of seafoam with 1 gallon of hi-test
6- loosened airbox screw and pulled back so i could push rubbers into airbox so I could spray a can of carb cleaner into the carbs and let sit over night with choke pulled to slow evaporation
7- next day i drained the carbs again with screws then sprayed carb cleaner up through drain hoses the closed screws again
8-now i opened petcock and let drain into carbs and let sit another night
9- trimmed plug wires at the coils by 1/4 inch and re-attached
10- measured coils for my 2.7ohms
11- try starting and feel exhaust for 4 hot pipes
12- not i replaced 4 plugs for standard DR8's gapped at .028
13- at this point it fired up on all 4!!! (as opposed to the 1 at 1st)

now fresh oil/filter and i ride....I plan to ride her to the local vintage bike guru this spring for a full carb remove/clean/renu/sync!!! for a full season

You didn't luck out. You did a regular maintenance on the engine. Plugs, wires, carbs, fuel lines, all according to the book. A few more things that might help: check the tires for cracks or aging, adjust the cam chains, adjust the valves, and sync the carbs.
I had the same model as your bike (CB750L). It's a rare machine.  Consider that if you're planning to donk it out, or do the cafe thing.

Congratulations on getting the bike running.  Now enjoy yourself, and ride safely.

thanks, and yes I've been prepping to do cam chain tension once I decide to do it via engine running method or hand crank (leading towards running) reading reading reading then decide
