1970 CB750 Center Stand Issues

motogpfan
I've got two center stands, have put each one on, and neither one is functioning correctly.  The problem is the same for both, which leads me to believe that the problem lies not with the stands but with where the frame meets the stand.

Anyway, what is happening: when I engage the center stand, it goes over the usual fulcrum point and rests further back so that the back tire rests on the ground instead of in the air as it should.  This makes it extremely difficult to get the bike on and off the stand (I've become a pro at it, but its not fun).  I would just use the side stand, but it was removed when the previous owner put a sidecar on the bike.  Plus, I like the stability and nice level a center stand offers.

So, any thoughts, suggestions, advice?  Or, anyone got an extra side stand that would work on a 1970 CB750?

Thanks in advance,

Andy

Thanks for the response 1975hondalover.

An update...I checked and I actually can't get a side stand for this bike as the previous owner somehow took the mount off when attaching a sidecar to the bike.  So, a center stand is my only option.

The frame rests on the bump stops, but it meets it too far back.  My next idea is to weld a extra centimeter of metal onto the bump stops...at least in my mind that seems like it might solve the problem.

Whaddya think?

Hey motogpfan,
What did you end up doing as a solution? My bike does the same thing, and Google is pretty worthless on the topic.

Thanks in advance,

Wow dug this up from the grave! There were apparently 3 types made for the centerstand. They got by the year of the bike.

You could do 2 things.
1: go to bikebandit.com and user their online parts diagrams for your year of bike and compare your stand to what they show. Make sure you have all the parts too.
2: the shop manual should show what the stand looks like, or at least how to put it on. Could just be a part missing.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

REVIVAL!!

So I took a peek at the parts diagram on bike bandit, and most everything appears to be present. I'm missing the bolts and nuts that they reference. I just picked some up at my local parts house, now time to see if anything changes...
