1975 cb750f oil change problem

Halo Skycrash
I just attempted my first oil change.  I undid the oil pan screw, drained the pan.  I changed the oil filter and put the new seal in.  I looked in the oil tank and it was still pretty much full.  I had to loosen the screw at the bottom of the oil tank.  I filled the tank up with 2 1/2 qts and new oil did not seem to go below the engine.  I unscrewed the oil pan bolt and nothing came out.  What am I doing wrong, and what may be messed up?

You need to drain the oil tank, filter and crankcase. These bikes have a dry sump and have two oil pumps and a check valve. When you put your drain bolts back in and fill it with about 3 1/2 qts, kick it over a few times to prime the pump.

I am just worried cause there doesnt seem to be any oil in the oil pan.  Does the oil pump put the oil down into the engine after you tun the bike over?  I do not want to blow my bike up!  It runs great.

The oil pump is gear driven and there's not much oil down there anyway, it just pumps what it needs. Turn it over a few times with the kill switch on and see if the oil light goes out. It should after a few seconds when it builds up pressure.

Hi I was just reading this thread. I too have a 75 cb750f, and I was wondering what your oil change procedure is? I just got the bike and it's my first cb750 so I just wanted to change the oil correctly.
From what I have gathered through this thread is:
1. remove pan bolt, drain oil
2. remove filter cover & drain
3. remove oil tank plug & drain
4. replace all plugs
5. fill with 3.5 quarts
6. turn over engine with ignition switch off until oil light goes out.
7. check levels

Does this seem correct?

Here is the proper way to do it.
I will not cover if oil should be warm or not as that kinda is a gray area. I have not seen anything say warm oil draining is better, just faster.
Anyways, Put the bike on the center stand of you still have it. Drain the side tank first. I found that using a corner piece of house siding works awesome to drain this. It is like a trough and can be hooked to stay in place while draining.
Once that is done, pull the filter off and drain that out.
NOW, hit the starter a few quick times. Be ready to catch the oil that shoots out! You can get up to almost a half quart out here.
Once that is done, drain the pan, use this time to check your oil for anything weird such as rubber bits or metal.
Put the filter back on and button things back up.
From there, fill your tank up all most all the way and you can kick a few times or use the starter sparingly.
Do this a few times and then start the bike. if done right, the oil light should only stay on a 1 - 3 seconds or not much longer than when you would start your bike normally.
run for a few minutes and watch the oil level. it will drop slowly. once about half way down, add some oil to the tank.
All said, you should be able to get 3.5 quarts in out of 3.7. I get this virtually every time.
That .2 is about 3 ounces which part is sitting in the valve area pooled.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
