1977 Honda CB750 Hondamatic..yay or nay

aviator
Hi all,

I am new to the forum. I need some opinions! A friend of mine is selling a 77 CB750 Hondamatic for 1500 bucks. It's in fair condition, not bad of shape considering how old it is. I did some of my own research on "Hondamatics" I love old Hondas. Is this a bike worth buying? I think it would be neat to own.

I saw the bike in person, everything works, signals, lights etc. The only thing is that it has a rough idle. I touched all four headers quickly after it idled. One was cold, so I'm thinking the carbs need some cleaning.. Could it be something else causing the problem?

Some help would be great! Thank you

That bike is well worth $1,500! It probably has a plugged pilot jet in the carb on the cold cylinder.

Hahaha! Any other bike and Tools would tell us he could buy it for a dollar in KS. ;) But.its a matic.so its worth it. Biased, buddy? LOL

Seriously though, that bike looks to be in fantastic shape cosmetically. I don't know what you want out of a motorcycle performance wise, but matics seem to create love - hate relationships with people. Some will say the are plenty fast while others say the are terribly slow. But there's one thing we all know, and that's that they are deadly reliable. They have one of.the most reliable engine put in and motorcycle ever. The charging systems are trouble free on these models. And the Transmissions are basically borrowed from a car...its tough. Just take it for a test ride and see how it.suits your riding style.

In my area that would be a fair price for that bike.

Hi guys,  a friend of mine purchased a 1977 Honda 750A that was not running, he has pretty much rebuilt the engine and he is in need of one thing, the 4 boots that go on the carbs.  Does anyone have any idea where these can be purchased?   I appreciate any help anyone has on this matter.

Thanks,

Jim
