1978 CB on Ebay

txnnd
Hi guys, new here, as I generally spend more time around those "other" UJM's, but this one caught my eye.  The price seems close to me, but I'm no expert by far.  I wanted to see what the experts thought about this one.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The asking price is way out of line. $5700 is out of the ball park. More like $1500 to $2200 max. I've seen many fine examples for less than $2000. That one isn't restored to stock condition and the modifications he made didn't add any value.

He did a lot of work (he says) but I have to wonder why he found it necessary to rebuild an engine with only 11,000 miles on it.

Thanks for the input, my expertise is definitely not in Honda's. I'm not necessarily looking for a "factory original" type bike, so I see what you are saying about his upgrades.  I'm seeing 31k on the odometer, so maybe that was the reason for the refresh.

He had it in an ebay auction before.  It got to $4,550 and didn't meet reserve.  I like that it's been completely gone through, (given that it's been done correctly), as I'm not looking for something to work on with this bike.

I'll take a look at those sites for sure!

Well the F2/3 engine had steep valve angles and the guides would wear out fast. So 11,000 miles isnt out of the question.

5700 is too much but depending on the area, I could see 3000.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Paying that much for the bike is a little high. He obviously is doing it to make a profit because a lot of time has gone into it. Powder coating frame rebuilt motor all takes time and money. Some want to get a bike that nice but don't have the means to build it to look that way or that nice. A lot of these cafe' style bikes go for big money out on the west coast.

On the other side if you are at all handy building these bikes is not that bad. I started my project last year with no experience with bikes or motors at all, I'v actuially never ridden one just love the way they look. I picked up a bike for $100 sold all the crap off of it  and with the help of the guys on here its up and running with only about $400 into it.

Still have a ways to go but it isn't that bad looking and I have learned a lot.

Thanks for all the feedback, seems he may be a little high.  I'm capable of building one myself, but I'm looking for something that is ready to ride, as I'm not looking for another project at the moment.

If you run across anything, please keep me in mind!

Craigslist in another good place to look.
