1978 wiring and brake issue

cowboy
I have a 1978 cb750 k8 i think bought it not running or ride able for 300 barn find kind of bike. The wiring harness is a mess up no brake light when pressing the foot brake no turn signals no horn they are all there they just don't work. Missing front brake caliper and top fuse on fuse block do to fuse clip broken.

My question is want year caliper would fit my bike and would something off a cb450 work?

What is a good way to de-rats nest the wiring and get everything figured out i already ordered a new fuse block holder?

And it won't idle without choke i have cleaned the carbs twice reusing the factory air box for now may upgrade to pods later with a home made surround to make life easy for carb adjustments. The pilot jets i check can see light threw them and all small holes are clear up top but still can not get to idle.

Is it possible the timing and or points gap is off and would be causing this and what should the points gap be?

Welcome to the forum. Any K, A, or 75-76 F break caliper will work as long as it has the correct bracket to mount it. The A, and F calipers are different, but will work with the right bracket. (I might have a K caliper I would sell). The CB 450, 500, 550... is different, and will not work. For the wiring. If it is that bad I would just spring, for a new harness from vintagecb750.com They are $75.00. On the carbs, your pilot jets are plugged. Pull them, and run a small wire through them.
Also, you can download the manual from the top of the home page here. The points are set at .012-.016 inch.

Yeah I looked on this forum and seen the vintage750 website brought up but I looked on there and they only show like 69 thru 75 or something like that wasn't sure how much difference there would be between my bike being a 78 and the wiring harness being a 75 or early set up and I would be interested in the caliper if u have one and for the right price lol the bike still has the caliper bracket on it for the k series but I would need to change it if I bought one for an a or f style bike now would they bolt to the forks without a problem

Sorry this is my first street bike rebuild I have worked on two stroke did and quads before this but 4 carbs is a lot for me to understand lOl like I said the holes around and the one in the center of the pilot jets is clear soaked in brake cleaner then Pushed wire through to verify may have to soak the carb bodies in a cleaner to see if there is a passage blocked it them blew air throw bt never no

Let me ask. Are, you planning on restoring the bike, or customizing it? How, you redo the wiring depends a lot on this.
The forks are all the same. The difference is in the bracket. I have seen the calipers go, for $125.00. If the one I have is good (I will disassemble it, and check it out.) I will let, you have it, for $75.00 shipped.

Right now its just get it running and rode worthy then we will see what happens after that father in law pushing to do a soft tail frame with a rack on it using the factory forks so it has a real low stance but it really just depends on how i feel after a year or two of riding it
