I appreciate you taking the time to offer advice. Its been an adventure so far. First time I've had a project like this in many years. Just hope I can get it back together the way its supposed to go. So far only picked up one piece off the ground wondering where it came from...

Well I've finished soda blasting all engine casings and painting with Duplicolor aluminum colored engine enamel. Seems like pretty good paint. I was planning to use VHT engine enamel but the duplicolor was available for $5/can and got pretty good reviews from folks using it. Here is a photo of some the pieces i've cleaned an painted...

almost ready to reassemble the engine. Got a used crank to replace the old one which had a bad crank pin due to a spun rod bearing. Bought new main and rod bearings, pistons, rings, cam chains and used primary chain and primary chain tensioner in great condition. Plastigauged the main and rod journals with 0.001-0.002 oil clearance all around. Everything looks good, just gotta get it done!

Right now I'm gonna keep it stock because I don't know anything else. Never done major mods to frame and such to build a bobber or cafe style bike. That may come in the future as I learn more about all that cool stuff.

Oh, and the duplicolor paint is high heat engine enamel rated to 500 deg F. It is similar to most other high heat paints on the market in that it is a ceramic resin based paint. I let it cure overnight and then baked in my wife's oven @ 200 for 20 min. Lots of folks like the VHT paint but this was available right down the block and the VHT paint I wanted was not to be found locally. I also looked at the Eastwood two part engine emanel that is rated to 650 deg F but you have to use a spray gun. I didn't want to get into that.

Hey, great restoration!! Its looking great. I know its been a couple a years since you posted this but Id really like to know how it turned out. Im currently restoring a 1981 Cb750 C, just finished painting the engine. And, as you did, Im replacing the main and rod bearings, the crankshaft, the primary chain and tensioner, both cam chains, cam guides and tensioner, new piston rings, new gaskets, relaping the valves and new valve seals. Ive been looking for full engine rebuild threads but I couldnt find much. I just wanted to know if you had any advice now that Im starting to put everything back together. I know everything has to be really clean. Is there something else I should now or pay atention to??
Thanks and great bike!
