I broke one of the "teeth" that hold one of the throttle cables when removing my carbs. Stupid mistake, but what's done is done.
The good news is that I was able to locate a replacement part on Ebay for $20!!
The bad news is that I can't get the broken part disassembled. I removed the nut on the end and the two screws on the plate and now it will slide out about a quarter of an inch and then it feels like it hits something solid. It doesn't feel like I should try to force it out. I have tried a little force but nothing that would damage it.
What I think I need to do is drive that "retaining rod" that is in the picture through the hole and then pop off that end piece of and remove the clip and I'm guessing at that point I'll find something else to remove??? Is that what I need to do?
The replacement part that I purchased looks like the end where the retaining rod is all put together. It doesn't appear that the retaining rod was ever removed.
If anybody has any info on what I should do or any other advice how to deal with the problem I created I would appreciate it!
One silver lining is that whoever worked on the carbs last didn't put the jets back in the right places exactly. Carb #1 had 2 of the #102 jets. Carb's #2 and 3 had a #102 and a #68. Carb #4 had 2 #68 jets. I'm guessing that means when I get this baby back together I should see a noticeable power difference right away!
This is my first motorcycle and I've had it less than 2 months. As soon as I broke that piece I said to my friend, "My bike just turned into a project bike!"
Thanks for your help!!!
