Hello all! I'm new here, I have a 1980 750k...
Was wondering, I have some dents in the tank on one side, and the overall paint is a little faded...
SO I'm gonna get the paint redone, taking those dents out while I'm at it...
Should I keep the original paint color and design, or should I go for Gloss black and grey pin-striping with grey flames surrounding the HONDA badges?
Also need new indicators as the current ones are a bit scratched and the ones lens I had to superglue and tape to the base of the indicator...(Dropped it )
Got the bike about 5months back, maybe six, but anyway, exhausts are aftermarket 4 on 4, and I got it serviced by Honda, she's running like a charm now, just that she seems to flood very easily... is this normal? I mean, I park, shift to neutral, close the fuel tap, let it idle a couple of seconds, and turn of, then it doesn't flood, but when i have to leave it in gear and it moves the slightest bit(obviously while I'm still on it) It floods... even with the tap on close... Then I have to push start it... I'm not a very big guy, that's a problem for me... haha
Any advice would help Oh yeah, I'm new to bikes... I'm in South Africa... any places you guys know where I can order things like indicators and mirrors? Or should I just use the Honda dealer?

Your bike has the same paint scheme as my '79 K model... What color to paint it? That is entirely up to you. Personally, I love the factory colors, but that is just me. Your bike appears to be in near-mint condition. The further you go away from stock, the less appealing it may be to future buyers... If you don't care about re-sale value, then modify it as you see fit.
As for mirrors, I bought some from Emgo, an international, Chinese company, with a world-wide distribution network. I am very satisfied with the mirrors, and other Emgo products I have bought over the years.
Can't help with the carb issues/flooding. Sorry.

I agree with keeping it stock, as this will keep the value a bit higher. I personally don't like flames, especially on Honda's. There is a reason why all the Harley's have flames, it's because they all leak and burn oil. The gray on black sounds like it would be a cool scheme to go with, again, minus the fire.

Welcome to the forum. I agree with the others. The black with flames sounds cool, but if you are worried about resale. Stay stock.
On your carbs. It sounds like your floats need adjusted. I would talk to the dealer that just did your tune up about it.
There are several places to get parts, for these bikes. I use vintagecb750.com , and tazclassicmotorsports.com a lot.

Thanks Guys :D
Will think about the paint, and yes, I agree the flames might be a bit much...
Will look into the sites you mentioned as well.
Will upload some photos when its got new paint on it As far as resale goes, I wont get much for this bike anyway(South Africa), so ya, wanna customize it just a tad bit, not too much, just "make her mine" ;)
By the way, awesome forum you guys got going here

Depending on what you want to do, it may be advisable to find an old structurally sound tank and flame it up, then go back to the other one when/if you decide to sell it.
Flames can be quite garish, or very subtle, depending on the look you want. There's the old 60s style flames that you'd see on drag racers and street cars. Flames can be done VERY subtly, with airbrush and some planning. Another option is called Lavallee flames. VERY realistic looking.
Try a youtube search for flames and stuff. Here's a link to some old school flame jobs.

I am acually trying to start making a living as a painter the paint on it looks good I can tell the sidecovers are faded pretty bad if you do get it redone and you are considering the flames maybe it wouldn't be too overwhelming to do ghost flames or another thing you can do is use the original as a guide and put your own twist on it I've done that on a few bikes heres the cb750 I painted using the method I just explained
|
|
not too great with computers but this is the bike I was talking about

like your color combo nice with white walls and the "twist" from stk.

What size tires you got on there?

front and back are both 130/90/16 I think I've noticed with honda paint scheme's the pinstripes don't always make a shape instead they would run the pinstripe off the tank or sidecover just leaving kind of an open shape what I did was make a closed shape out of them and make them an inlay for a different color and pinstripe around it the end result usually looks pretty close to stock unless you do some trick stuff like skulls or flames but if you decide to go with ghost flames it looks stock untill you get right up on it just a couple of suggestions for your paintjob when the time comes
|
|
thanks, will keep it in mind But I have to ask though, how does having such broad tires at the back and front affect the handling?
And are those forks stock? if not, which forks are they?

I'm actually not sure how it rides I'm a paraplegic so I can't ride I'll have to ask my dad about it and the forks aren't stock I actually am not sure what forks they are the front tire is actually so wide there wasn't enough room to put a fender or cable speedometer on it so we put a digital bycicle speedometer on it the entire triple-tree is acually different my dad did that so he could weld it on to get the rake on the forks he wanted, but I'll ask my dad about it and get back with you
|
|
I asked my dad about it and he said the forks are from a vt 750 its another honda I'm thinking a magna and he said with the wider tires it actually rides alot smoother

To your original question, I have found that there are a lot of black or dark gray cruiser type bikes out there & the don't really stand out.
The outside the box colors stand out & pop.

Thanks speedy I would love to do the same thing to my bike, fatter wheels have always been eye-candy to me...
And I like more neutral colors, I don't like to stand out too much...
The look I want for my bike is a mysterious, mystical, and elite look, if that makes sense I want people who happen to walk buy, stare at it and go" ", not have ppl go "OMW look at that!!!!" when I come around the corner...
What safety is concerned, I has my loud pipes Also skulls not really my thing, but the flames I am thinking about are really subtle, blended into the background, you'd have to stand next to the bike to see it...
