1980 cb750 build

kiser1991
so i just got home with a 1980 cb750 I picked up for 250. Not in bad condition either just won't run. let me just start by saying this is my 2ND cb750c So I am pretty familiar  with them. so I will tell you a little about this one and what I know so far. Got it home and battery readout it on charge 2.5 amp over night hooked up next morning still dead so jumped it on my truck and it turned over fine. Opens the gas cap smelled gas and seemed to be soso not sure if it's bad kinda smells boarder line. Then noticed gas line wasn't hooked to carbs. Hooked it back up and left the gas off, I wanted to see if I was getting spark, took one plug out and it was not getting spark then took out one of the other spark plugs from the other cool and I get spark so put a little gas in cylinder and it hit a lick. So what should I do from here to determine if cool is bad? any ideas? Also I plan to make a bobber or cafe racer out of this one not sure which.

Drain that old fuel. Swap the coils and see if you still get spark on the one that was firing. That will tell you if the coil is bad. Check the water in the battery, maybe you can get it to charge up enough to do some testing. Since the fuel line was disconnected maybe the previous owner drained the carbs before parking it. If it sat with fuel in it, plan on cleaning the carbs.

If you need to jump start it, do it with the vehicle's engine OFF or you'll pump way too many amps into your bike's system.

Man, I thought you were gonna say you caught the bike on fire.

If a battery won't take a charge overnight it'd bad.  Don't waste yer time, get another one.

250, good deal.  maybe put a pic up, no?

Thanks guys! I will def get some pics up tonight.  One thing at a time first the coil was going to move the wires from the good coil to the bad then I saw that on one coil it has 3 wires. 2 wires going into one prong and one wire going in to the other prong. The other coil has 2 wires going into 2 prongs. Its factory but before I move them over I wanted to cake sure with you all first it was ok. Maybe a ground idk? Next topic question will my 750c motor fit in the 1980f frame I think I could prob make a little better looking bobber with a hard tail with that frame any sugestions? Also will have pics of both bikes I have up in a hour or so!

Replace the Battery!  This is how people burn up the electrical systems.
