1980 cb750k with 900 carbs and pods

isaakt
new to the thread so if anyone could help that would be great

just recently picked up a 1980 cb750k. it has cb900 keihin carbs with k&n pod filters and a 4-1 mac exhuast.

when i start the bike (cold) i have to jump on the throttle a little bit or else it wont continue running. after keeping the bike revved with the throttle for a while and the bike gets somewhat warm it will idle pretty good at 1k rpm but seemed as if it would die. i took it to a mechanic and i asked them to clean the carbs, rejet and sync if need be so hopefully it would start better and run smoother. i got the bike back and everything is the same except after riding for a while and the engine temps pick up the rpms rise to 2 - 2500 rpms and wont come down. i suspect it is running very lean from how hot the bike gets and i really dont wanna damage the motor. what i think the mechanic did was just turne the idle screw to inscrease idle speed and left the carbs alone. also when i ride the bike will reach 6k no problem but after that it just bogs and struggles

what im asking is should i try and make the 900 carbs with pods work or should i just buy and go with cb750 carbs and the airbox? how can i make it so when i start the bike i dont have to jump on the throttle to keep it alive? how can i make the bike less lean? and whats causing the bike from go past 6k rpm? any other suggestions while be greatly apprcitiated.

i am trying to get this bike up and running properly

You have two problems here. First you have a vacuum leak. This often happens after the carbs have been removed, and put back on. Second, you are trying to run pods with the CV carbs. No one, and I repeat NO ONE has gotten Honda CV carbs to run correctly with pods. Although Shiny is giving it one hell of a try. The 900 carbs should be OK, just find a stock airbox and fix the vacuum leak.
