i got this bike as a project wanted to make it a chopper but after i got it running and drove it a little over the last worm days of the  fall i started to love the bike don't want to ruin anything original on it .
I purchased the bike for $600 rebuild the carbs and front breaks and now i only need to work on the clutch its making noise when not engaged but when i engage it noise goes away hoping to find more help on this site so far found all the help i needed .

I can't speak for the DOHC models but if they are anything like the SOHC bikes, they just rattle. You can put a new clutch and springs in but after a while, it's gonna rattle. I don't think you have anything to worry about but others with this bike will be along with comments.

This is true, my `80 750C makes the same grinding noise. It drives me crazy, but that's the way it is.

Are you sure it's not just the transmission rattling? Some of the gears turn with the clutch engaged.
