This post was updated on .
So, I am a new member, with a new-to-me ride... A 1982 Honda CB750C. A good friend of mine just 'gave' me his old bike, 'cuz he picked up a new ride... He was tired of dealing with the problems with this one.
I, on the other hand, with my 7 years bike mechanic experience (not tons, but enough), see this as an opportunity to make something great. Having gotten my start working on Triumph, Norton, BSA, Royal Enfield, and Moto Guzzi, feel a distinct connection with the Cafe Style bike, and am going to build a great one. It is gonna take time and plenty of money, but I'm not looking to sell this and get anything out of it. I want this to be my ride.
As I work on it, I'll post pictures, tell anyone who cares what I have done, and occasionally ask questions, hoping to draw on your experiences modifying these bikes to aim me in the right direction.
My first Mod question is this... I have heard from an Admin on another CB750 Mod site, which mostly deals with Single Cam models, that an 04-06 GSX-R600 Triple Tree will bolt right into an '82 CB750. This doesn't jive with me, just because it sounds too damn good to be true.
In your experience, is this true? If not, IS there a "Plug-and-Play" modern-ish sportbike front end that will work? I really want to get rid of these stupid "air forks" and perhaps be able to run a really great front end suspension.
Same question for the rear end... What can I run back there? I want to update that, too... I'm ok with running the twin shocks for the rear, but I want to be able to run a wider rear wheel, and update to disk brakes .... 17" tubeless sportbike rims, front and rear.
Ok... enough for now. Those Q's are really getting ahead of myself, anyhow, but better to find answers for the costly things early rather than late.
I look forward to any questions and comments you may have.

If you head over to customfighters.com forum there is alot of info on what front ends are easy to swap over. Any set of forks you can find can be fitted pretty easily. If you can find a set of modern forks with a steel lower clamp ( many are aluminum) you can just cut the stem off your lower and weld it on to the modern lower-Presto!- It fit's! You may have to adapt a reducing bushing into the modern upper to accept the original stem,or it may just be opened up. All depends on the specific parts. There is alot of info on this on that forum. You just gotta dig for it. I found a rockin' DOHC on there the other day.I'll see if I can hunt you down the link.

Very Cool... You're right... hard to find stuff on there, but I'll do some digging!
Again, I love the fact that you found those Moto Guzzi cans... are you going to run them on your bike, or are you saving them for another project?

Damn... now the carbs are leaking.... just set the damn thing on fire... Got it out though, and quickly. No damage, except for the $45 per carb complete rebuild kits I'm gonna buy.
Balls.

A bud of mine has a motorcycle shop in town and he had those Guzzi cans. The old guy (67 yo) that works with him took them off his bike and put on a full aftermarket exhaust,intake...etc. I love cool old guys!
I gotta find that link still. That bike was sweet.
There has GOT to be a cheaper set of carb kits for your bike. I'm not up on the DOHC bikes as well as the singles. Put up a thread.Maybe someone not following your build may know where to get some deals on those kits. $200 is waaay too much for carb kits!!!

Hell yeah... I love old bikers... one taught me all I know about Triumph, Nortons, etc... He is a Vietnam War Vet, looks like a cross between Jerry Garcia and 'Uncle Jesse', smoked stogies, and ordered 'decorative Poppies' to make tea from. ;) Coolest old guy I know :) I'd love to still be working with him! Make sure you check on ebay for a complete set. I got four kits for $75 a while ago.

Even complete kits, incl. every o-ring, gasket, diaphragm, new float needles, jets, everything? I had looked it up... the kit I found is about $43 per carb... I'm at the point where I am going to pull the carbs completely apart and scrub them till they're shiny and new, inside and out. I have also decided I am going to pull the engine this fall and do a complete rebuild replacing every bearing, [at least] honing the cylinders, getting some new Wiseco pistons.... You know... Make it new again... That way, next spring, I'll have a kick ass bike that runs like a top! Now to build a work bench! Thanks there, JohnnyL, I usually hit up Amazon first... they usually have what I am looking for at the lowest price ... I am actually looking for the Complete Rebuild Kit, containing every diaphragm, etc... I'm intending to do a complete bank dis-assembly, clean, etc. This kit doesn't contain all I need. I'll keep looking, though! Thanks for taking the time to send this off to me! Ho-Leee shit.... that's fuckin' killer!! I sure can't afford some Ohlins anything, but I'd love to run some USD forks. Bitchin' man! I thought you might like that. That extended factory swing arm he started with looked killer,I didn't care for that huge, clunky one he added later. But, not my bike either. Alrighty, you are now armed with the know-how.Get to it!

With my Next Paycheck, I'll be building my work bench... I have a nice, very basic garage here, but no work bench. I've already drawn up the plans for it, including adding inside walls and insulation behind it... I've been wanting to insulate the garage, but I've got to do it in sections. We only moved in in the spring, but now seems to be a great time to get to work on it... I'm also thinking about a wood burner to keep things warm, while there's snow on the ground... Have plenty of that since we're bringing down a large maple this fall. Anyhow, back to the work bench... gonna be a 4' x 8' work surface, just high enough I can sit on a bar stool whilst working. Once I get it done I'll take a picture or two for everyone's enjoyment. Thanks again, Ribsy! (sorry about that... just slipped out!) Drat.... plans have been foiled... my 2 hours/day overtime has been eliminated... Time to enact plan B!

This post was updated on .
If the work bench is against a wall only make it 30 inches wide.
You can only reach 30 inches across, and that way you will have more room in your workshop.
You are very smart to build the bench.
I see so many guys trying to work down on the floor.
http://charlesandhudson.com/newsite/buildityourself/If the work table is to build the motorcycle.... only build it 20 inches high. That way later on you can get one of those hydraulic lift tables to lift the engine up and down and to lower the bike off of the table.
On a Roadstar Adventure.

Thanks for the tip, Lucky 1... I will do that! and F*ck working on the floor! Like Sweet Brown once said, "Ain't nobody got time for that!"
