Hello friends in the CB750 land
I have a 1982 CB750K that I bought off of Craigslist for $600 late last summer. I bought it looking for a winter project and this is my first attempt at rebuilding/modifying. I think it's cool when people post their builds and give us as much info as they can so I hope to do the same. I accept all comments, critiques so please leave them and ask me any questions you have. I'm not a mechanic but I have always tried to do everything myself so I appreciate any advise.
Right off the bat after buying her I had to get her running.
New spark plugs , oil, oil filter, air filter (had to buy the clip on ebay), headers and exhaust (local used purchase). She wasn't running smooth (revving high after she got warm) so I had to take her in and get the carbs cleaned out and running right.
I had to rebuild the front brake system. New line, reservoir, blah blah blah...
After that enjoyed her for a little and then winter came.....................
So I took her all apart and slowly cleaning her up. I have a lot of pictures of taking her apart but u would be bored with that. I'm going for more of the brat style since my old lady likes to ride with me so I'm keeping the length of the seat and going with what I think would look cool. That's what its all about right! Of course I'm on a budget like most people so nothing too crazy so i do have to compromise some artistic ideas.
Here's what I have done so far..
Forward controls. Old and worn.. Instead of buying new ones I just repainted.
I used semi gloss spray can paint and bought some red paint and micro brush at a hobby store.
I just took my time and she looks great.
Does anyone know where I can purchase a new horn and start button? I'm having a hard time finding them.
I guess I could repaint but I dont want to make it too thick.
I started stripping the tank down. At this point it's pretty much stripped but there is more sanding and then priming to be done. I have a design all ready planned out.
I had a friend of my father in law weld on the tail loop and also weld tabs to connect side panels to hide the battery.
I was going to go through the whole process of hiding the electronics and battery but I will just put a cool plate there instead.

I decided to move the lower eye of the shocks on the swingarm back. I hope i didnt screw this up but instead of buying links, and having the opportunity of the welder to do this, we cut out the eye and welded it back 2 inches. Im not the tallest guy but i didnt want to purchase shorter shocks since im rebuilding the ones i have.
I have also cut the original seat pan width wise and have done the same to the foam. Im going to trim the foam even more and have that re-upholstered.
