630 to 530 chain conversion

friendrobert
I have a '77 CB750 that runs beautifully. I recently replaced the cam chain and tensioner. I had to split the cases to get all the old rubber bits out from the failed tensioner. I went through the carbs and installed electronic ignition. I also did the 630 to 530 chain conversion. The bike runs great . Beautiful pickup , good torque. It just stops pulling at 100 mph. What sprockets are recommended to get.more speed?

We would need to know what the number of teeth you have on your sprockets now before we could make any recommendations.

17/47 is close to your original ratio. 17/46 would be a slightly under so less rpm but possible higher speed.
I would NOT put an 18 on the front. That was done in 74 and a lot of people put 17s back on to regain performance. The 18 tooth caused the bike to lug and actually lose top speed.

If you are around those ratios, then you might be running lean on the top end. We would need to know your carb set up then.

I have an 18/43 set. Going to the 17 would be my first step?

No wonder you cant get past 100. You are running a 2.38 ration. Way too low. Dropping to a 17 front would at least get something back. Ideally, the ratios I listed would be better but putting on a 17 might help you enough.

I had a '70 model I was happy with so I'll go with the 17/47. Thanx for your knowledge and input.

Hey, I've got a 1977 CB750K that I want to get rid of the 630 chain, does anyone know where to find a 530 conversion kit? Or do I just use a '76 sprocket?  My local supply house doesn't know where to look.

Just get sprockets and chain for any 69-76 CB 750.
