71 CB750 K1 - Clutch & Cam Chain Tensioner Adjustment

Syd
Hi there - I have the above bike and which was completely rebuilt by the previous owner a couple of years ago - has done approx 2,500 miles on a new engine. Is there a link available that provides clear and simple instructions on how to check and adjust the clutch and also the cam chain tensioner on this early model CB750? Gear changes are "clunky" and the finding neutral can be difficult at times even after adjustments at the lever. The gearbox was also reconditioned by the previous owner.

The cam chain is very noisy at idle. I understand these old bikes do have a noisy cam chain at idle, however I have read different suggestions on how to do the adjustment, I just want to ensure I do this the correct way first time on this bike.

Welcome to the forum. First, you can download the Honda manual from the manual section at the top of the home page here, for free. It has very detailed instructions on adjusting the clutch. However I just loosen the locknut then back off the adjusting screw. Then tighten it in until I feel it touch. Then I back it out a 1/4 turn and I'm done. Second, these bikes do not have noisy cam chains! What you are describing "noise at idle" is most likely the carbs needing synced. 99.9% of the time this is what is causing this noise.
