750 idling trouble

jam718
Hi all,

When I start up my 77 750 super, it starts fine with it choked and normally on short trips you have to keep it choked (takes a while to warmup). but whenever I come to a stop it won't just idle; I have to keep throttling it to keep it running. Also, a friend behind me said I was smoking a bit. Any help would be appreciated!

How well does it idle while warm? If it still wont idle and you need to keep a hand on the throttle, then turn your idle knob to the left as you are sitting on the bike.

The knob is on the right side(sitting on bike) above #4 carb.

If the issue is just while warming up, nothing is "wrong" just not adjusted. In the middle of the carb back is an adjustment for "fast" idle when the choke is on. This just needs to be adjusted. I have to do this too sometime but it does not harm anything, you just keep a hand on the gas.

Also, you will most likely have some smoke when choke is on, you are running very rich at that time.
It is after choke is off and engine is warm that you should not have hardly, if any, smoke.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
