77 CB750A

BeastlyB0b
Greetings guys thanks for having me So I bought a 77 cb750A in may I took 2 so called experts with me before buying the bike and ended up paying 1600 for the bike turns out my experts knew nothing. I have had the tank lined tires and brakes replaced shocks replaced fork seals replaced . The shop that rebuilt my carbs informed me that the carb holders were worthless and leaking and made me buy new boots bowl gaskets bowl screws float needles etc. This is not a fly by night shop but I feel something shady was going on when I finally got the bike back #1 carb leaks from around the float bowl idle is terrible the replaced my airbox with pods the idle solenoid is missing the speed warning unit is missing and because I had the bike sent straight to them I can not document that anything was on the bike when the received it. Part of me wants to scrap the bike but I am 4000 in the whole already . Is there a way to save this bike on the cheap I am already committed to buying a set of carbs of a 77K if I have too what else should I do?

I wonder where they found new carb boots for an "A" model, since none have been available for several years now. You definitely have a vacuum leak, and your pilot jets are plugged. I would also bet that they did not re-jet for the pods. I have 5 CB 750 A's and love them. I an even working on a deal to get another one . Any way, what I recommend is to go on and use the 77-78 K model carbs, you can get new boots for them from vintagecb750.com. Do away with the idle solenoid, and speed sensor/control/warning/whatever it is thing. It is not needed. I would recommend  starting with a 120 main jet, and raise the needle one clip position, or shim it 1.5 mm if it is not an adjustable needle. I would also recommend putting the K model airbox on it.
However if you still want to scrap it, give me a shout.

Ok Guys I have used the Cycle x shorty shocks and lowered my bike about 2 inches I can flat foot it now. I Found a garage in SWFL that has experience with 70's cb750's They are ground up rebuilding from the ground up a set of carbs off a 78 cb750k I have talked to an old time Honda racing mechanic and he told me that if I am running pods for the street the best thing I van to is get the cones with metal reinforcement and tape them off with black tape till only 3/4's of an inch of element is showing. Now I come to mt question. I have heard people tell me all day long that the MAC 4 into 1 is just bad news for my bike so what do I want to run 4 singles, A pair of 2 into 1's a custom 4 into 2 into 1 it is mostly a commuter bike but I sometimes have to do a couple hundred miles and want enough throttle left to get me out of trouble. also I installed a pamco ignition and am less than thrilled is there an optical with less play than the magnetic

There is not anything wrong with a MAC exhaust. I myself have been eying the new Cycle-X 4 into two systems. As for ignition, I run points.
