77 cb550 sputter

ive been getting alot of engine sputtering when i break 5 grand on my rpms. any thoughts? i also need to re-sync and re-jet my carbs due to the new pod filters and the 4x1 exhaust i put on the bike.
need some imput. thanks.

The sputtering is most likely from the bike running lean.Mine did it too when I made the mods you mentioned. Once you get your carbs sorted out you'll probably see this problem go away.

do you have any good suggestions on where to get the jet kits? and what size i should be lookin at?

Ebay usually has plenty of jets for sale.If you look around enough you can find some pretty good prices on them,some of the prices are just crazy. I have never worked on a 550 so I cant help with jet sizing there,but I can tell you this. My bike (750) was sputtering and 5k also and I ended up increasing my jets from 105's to 120's on the mains,and from 38's to 42's on the pilot jets. If you only jet up the mains you will have issues at low rpms and off-idle. You need to tune the pilot jets,too.  Sorry I couldn't help more.

That said, the cb550 seems to have a push in jet and friction fit slow jets in addition to the screw in mains I listed above.

You might just need to try a few.  Might get expensive at $22 for a set of 4 friction fit slow jets.
