78 CA750A

trippledipper
Actually I have a 78 CA 750A with less than 8K miles. I need the carb connecting boots. They are Honda p/n 17253-393-770. I don't know what the differences are between the various numbers like the CA verses the CB or the A, F or K series. I am an old guy with a new toy. I know that it is carbureted and is very cold blooded. Any assistance you could afford me would be appreciated.

Welcome. The CB stands for "COOL BIKE" The A designation means Automatic. K means a standard 5 speed bike, and F is the sport model. As for the carb boots, the Automatic uses necked down carbs, and has it's own size carb boots. They are no longer available. Some people switch to different carbs. The 77-78 K and F carbs will accept the throttle kick-up device that speeds up the idle when you put the bike in gear. As for the being cold blooded, these bikes are, but your pilot jets might be plugged.
Most of the time we tell everyone to download the factory service manual from the home page here, but we do not have the matic specific manual yet. It can be obtained from Honda and is one of the better manuals I have used. However the manual we have here will be useful for many repairs since the only real difference between the matics, and the 5 speeds is the transmission.

Thank you. that is a wealth of information. Would you suggest replacing the carb to get the boots that are available? Where do I get such a thing and then again how much?

I have seen people on eBay selling Carb boots for these bikes. Sometimes people will have Nos (new old stock) parts, but they don't know what they are exactly, so the list them by part number rather than item description.

If you can find the part numbers you need you might find some boots that way. Also try eBay.UK. You can find things over there that people just don't have in the states.

Nos parts aren't always cheap, and neither is shipping from the UK, but it may balance out after you factor in buying another set of carbs, boots to match those carbs, jets to tune 77-78 carbs to your bike...etc.

There are also companies that will reproduce rubber parts on request. I can't think of the name of one that I know about right now, but I told Tools about them. Hopefully he remembers! :)

I have a friend that says he can make a mold, and make new boots for me. I still need to get my old boots to him. Maybe if he has more then one customer it will take some of the expense off me.
