My Barber Vintage Festival score

If you've never been you really oughta to try and make it. We had a blast. I went with my bud, Eric, to try and sell some bikes, and Crys came along this year. She had a good time but she did NOT do her job which was to make me behave financially. I'm glad.

The result: my next project. A hardtailed 1967 BSA Lightning frame and a 1965 BSA A65.  It was quite a weekend assembling these parts. When I first spotted the frame the guy was asking $600 for it and neither of us had a clue what it was. I looked around until I found something that looked similar and started researching and asking all sorts of questions. I was able to get hooked up with the President on some BSA Club and he gave me TONS of info. Long story short, he gave me the crash course on BSA A65's and I just went to work assembling parts. No better place for it IMO.

After two solid days of hunting, walking, scrounging, walking, bartering, walking and trading I was able to get a near complete bike. Grand total of $675.

-The frame is untitled, but is straight, solid and has the correct wheel.
-Engine has good compression, one cracked fin ( easy to get to, hope to weld one one)
-I found a pair of Amal monoblock carbs and some matching velocity stacks
-I really lucked out when I found the missing engine side covers...for $5 each!
-Scored a correct front end in 100% usable shape with...4'' over tubes!
-Found a early BSA front rim that is useable and has a perfectly working brake. Unsure of the year.
-Various other pieces: chrome foot pegs, brake and shifter levers with good chrome, etc.

Now all I have to do is get Hackjob done so I can start on this bike. I honestly can't wait.

Variety is the spice of life!

I will say this, though. '60's British stuff (engines and frames) look like farm tractors compared to Japanese stuff. It very obvious the build quality is just not the same.

Yeah, but the cool factor is there, great bike, can't wait to see the finished product. Speaking of cool factor pan that camera a bit more to the right, what is that black beauty sitting there?

Truck, that the Old Bomb. A '48 Oldsmobile Club Coupe I used to drag race before I got bit by the bike bug :) She's actually going up for sale soon as a roller if you're interested. ;) All she lacks is an engine and a radiator.

Yea. Your going to need money for all those electrical components your going to be needing. Do you have something against working, reliable electrics?

Awsome car, but I think the police around here might have issues with me having something like that, I have a hard enough time staying out of trouble with my 4-banger.

Mehhh, you'll get used to it. Other than early small CC Honda trail bikes, that's what I learned on. My first street bikes were Beeza's WAAAAY back in the day... Here are a couple things to help you out.

You can find this manual on e-bay on a regular basis. It's scans of the original factory manual. Best value for the $.

When you do get ready to work on the electrical system...

"Recommended procedure before taking on a repair of Lucas equipment: Check the position of the stars, kill a chicken and walk three times sunwise around your bike chanting: "Oh mighty Prince of Darkness protect your unworthy servant."

Finally, once you get the starting ritual down by "tickleing" the carbs, you will need this T-shirt...

81 Honda CB750C - Current Project
67 BSA Spitfire MkIII - Next Up (Full Resto)
81 Honda GL1100 - Bob / Cafe´
80 Suzuki GS750L - Bratstyle
72 Honda CB450K5 - Basket Case
73 Honda CB350F Cafe' (Gone but not forgotten)

Don't wait for opportunity to knock... kick the door down and drag the old harlot in!
