78 CB750F spoke wheel swap!!!

Ionizer
I am slightly confused with the information I've been seeing in relation to swapping out the comstar dual disc wheels for spoked wheels...(it hardly seems possible)

I can see my options are limited to basically either going with an earlier model CB750 front end and losing a rotor or use a GL1000 front end and keep the dual discs. (correct??)

If I were to locate a GL1000 front end is there a specific year that i need to look for to make an easy fit. I dont want to do much fabrication if possible so I want to find a direct fit. Are there any other modifications I should be aware of with the GL1000 swap? (ie. speedo/steering stops)

Last what would I do for the rear wheel? Is there a direct swap for it or would i also need to locate a part from another bike?

Any help is appreciated this is my 1st cb major tear down and i want to make it handle and look perfect.

Thanks from the noob

You want a 75-76 Gold Wing front end. The speedo cable from the 750 will bolt right into the GL speedo drive. For the rear wheel, you can use any 69-83 CB 750, of 71-78 CB 500-550 wheel.

Okay so I am going to have to use the GL1000 M/C, calipers, wheel, and rotors along with the complete fork and triple tree? I found this GL front end on ebay which I am contemplating buying but just want to be sure that I am getting the right parts.

Also since this front end is taller i assume that i will need to drop the tree down slightly?

You are right. Also, you will want to switch to tapered roller bearings when, you do this. All Balls Racing is the best. On that front end. I think it is really high. I would keep looking.

The reason i didnt convert to spokes is because the bike already has disk in the rear and double disc in the front. I wanted the spoked wheels for looks but after powder coating them black they look awesome and i decided to just stick with them.

If you wanted to convert you would need a fork off a late 70s- early 80s GL1000 and then cut the tube. The rear you would need to either get a new hub made from scratch or pull an early model SOHC 750 rear wheel and find an appropriate axle.

Hope that helps
